How a Thermosyphon Solar Water Heater Works
Sunlight Heats the Water in the Tubes
Evacuated tubes absorb sunlight and heat the water inside them. The vacuum layer in each tube cuts heat loss, so the tubes work well even when it is cool outside.
Hot Water Rises on Its Own
Hot water is lighter than cold water, so it moves up into the insulated tank while cooler water flows down into the tubes. This is the thermosyphon principle, and it needs no pump and no electricity.
The Insulated Tank Keeps It Hot
PUF insulation around the tank holds the heat, so you have hot water in the evening and the next morning, with only about 5 degrees Celsius lost overnight.
